Fortissimo Secures Global Rights for Feng Xiaogang's If You Are the One 3 Ahead of China Premiere

If You Are the One 3 has garnered a lot of anticipation as a China and Netherlands-based production company has acquired the global sales rights for the Chinese blockbuster. By: Wee Yan Ling

The narrative is set against a futuristic 2031 where themes of solitude, reflection and companionship are explored in the series. 

This film is Feng Xiaogang’s third instalment of the anti-romance comedy franchise and is scheduled for premier in China on the 30th of December. The franchise originated in 2008 and released a sequel in 2010. The cast is ensemble by Ge You, Shu Qi, Fan Wei, Yao Chen, and Guan Xiaotong.

The film tells the story of Qin (Ge You) who retreats to a small island while his wife Xiaoxiao (Shu Qi) is away all year long. To combat the loneliness, Qin’s friend designs an android replica of his wife. When one day Xiaoxiao returns, the three must navigate life together as they face the uncertain future.

The film is produced by Mayla Media, Huayi Brothers and China Film Co., this installment is a departure from the franchise’s historical association with Huayi Brothers. Fortissimo acquires the international rights, however it is excluding Hong Kong/Macau, North America and Oceania.

Feng Xiaogang has made a name for himself as one of China’s most renowned and established directors. This can be seen through his works of A World Without Theives (2004) and I Am Not Madame Bovary (2016). Fortissimo films had handled mainland China hits such as Deep Sea, The Yin-Yang Master and Mountain Cry.
