iQiyi Showcases 2024 Lineup from Thailand, Taiwan and Malaysia

Chinese streaming service iQiyi unveiled a slate of productions and commissions by its international division, at the Asian Television Forum & Market (ATF). By: Dylan Low

Executives namely chief content officer Wang Xiaohui, alongside President of movies and overseas business Yang Xianghua, have stated that the company plans to release more than 280 Chinese films, drama series, variety shows and kids programmes. The company will be highlighting three topics – ‘oriental fantasy,’ ‘mature romance,’ and ‘sweet crush’, as they aim “to meet the emotional needs of our international audiences.”

Highlights consist of an international adaptation of Youth With You to be released globally. Its collection also contains up to 30 original productions and licensed shows from Taiwan. Among them, Not a Murder Story is slated to premiere in January.

Extending its influence in Southeast Asia, iQiyi will be featuring 12 Malay-language local originals slated for screening in 2024 while collaborating with local companies MIG Productions and Infinitus. Shows involved would be the sequel of Rampas Cintaku, iQiyi’s first Malay language original, which had achieved 100 million online views worldwide.

The company is “carving out its own space by not only complementing the existing content offering in the market such as the popular young adult, family-themed and romance genres, but also providing genre-bending and bold storylines that are rarely seen on traditional TV today,” mentioned by the head of original content at iQiyi Malaysia, Zebedee De Costa.

In Thailand, iQIYI will be offering four Thai original productions and 20 new shows from production houses such as One31, Star Hunter Entertainment, Studio Wabi Sabi, Mandee Work, Me Mind Y, Change 2561.

Shows will comprise of names like My Stand-In, to be released in Spring, along with City of Stars and Sunset x Vibes, produced by Star Hunter.
