Blue Eye Samurai Renewed for Sequel on Netflix

Blue Eye Samurai has been renewed for a second season at Netflix. By: Dylan Low

Produced by Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, Blue Eye Samurai showcases the experiences of Mizu, who is voiced by Maya Erskine, a mixed-race sword wielder. Located in Edo-period Japan, Mizu lives a life under wraps, looking to exact revenge.

Noizumi and Green announced in a statement on Netflix, “When we started this project, we made a commitment to take this very personal story set in Edo-period Japan and bring it to life in the most authentic and beautiful way possible. Our animators, historians, musicians, martial artists and voice cast made this a reality beyond our expectations,

“We are thankful to our entire team and to our viewers from all over the world who have shown such passion for Mizu and her path of revenge. Mizu has a lot more blood to spill! We are deeply grateful to our incredible partners at Netflix for letting the journey continue.”

Season 2 details will be mentioned at a future date.

Some of the supporting cast members include George Takei (Seki), Masi Oka (Ringo), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (The Swordmaker), Brenda Song (Akemi), Darren Barnet (Taigen), Randall Park (Heiji Shindo), and Kenneth Branagh (Abijah Fowler) are also among the voice cast. Stephanie Hsu (Ise), Ming-Na Wen (Madame Kaji), Harry Shum Jr. (Takayoshi) and Mark Dacascos (Chiaki).

Noizumi and Green featured as executive producers and writers in the first season. Erwin Stoff will also be an executive producer, while Jane Wu takes up the role of supervising director and producer. Blue Spirit is the animation studio in charge of the film.

The film continuation was well-timed, with the many animated cancellations that took place in the last year at Netflix which includes names like Agent Elvis, Captain Fall, Farzaar, Disenchantment, Inside Job, Q-Force and Big Mouth – which concludes in Season 8 and slated for 2024 release. Netflix has last mentioned that they will keep on investing in adult animation.
