Young Sheldon and Super Mario Bros. Film Reaps Netflix Effect

Leave The World Behind holds reign in Nielsen’s rankings from Dec. 4-10. By: Cassia Ling

Three weeks after the premiere of Young Sheldon on Netflix, the Big Bang Theory prequel has transcended rankings and attained the highest viewership in the United States. A platform segue to Netflix has also enabled The Super Mario Bros. Movie to its biggest streaming week to date.

The two gigs which topped the charts after Leave The World Behind respectively on Nielsen’s streaming chart during the week exemplifies a testament to Netflix’s monopoly on consumers’ streaming. Young Sheldon had raked 1.63 billion minutes of viewing on Netflix and Max for the week, after its chronicle of 1.85 billion minutes the preceding week and 963 million during the week of its commencement.

Previously only exclusive on Max, the prequel has ceded its rankings innumerably before its addition to Netflix and easily reigned over the original series in viewing time during the three weeks of its premiere. On Max, Big Bang Theory has garnered 592 million minutes of watch time on Dec. 4-10.

Concomitantly, The Super Mario Bros. Movie had raked impeccable ratings on Peacock earlier this year, with a staggering 717 million minutes during its commencement week between late July and early August. After bequeathing out of the top 10 in fall, the gig then surmounted to 1.35 billion minutes of watch time in its premiere week on Netflix.

Welcoming the Netflix film that has swept away the pinnacle of ratings, Leave The World Behind with a whopping 1.92 billion minutes viewership during its opening week. Squid Game: The Challenge has simmered to a tad lower 1.03 billion minutes after two weeks exceeding 1.4 billion, but still clinched the top original series spot. YA’s breakout My Life With the Walter Boys premiered to 673 million minutes of viewing on Netflix, commendable for third on the originals list.

Supplementary details: Nielsen’s streaming ratings only covers viewing on TV sets, exclusive to its watch time on computers and mobile devices. The ratings are only conglomerated amongst the U.S. audiences, and the week Dec. 4-10.
