Latin America is poised for a television revolution as Canal+ Group’s Thema America form alliance with SPI International to churn out 10 new thematic channels to the region. The strategic partnership is a monumental step of Canal+’s overarching global expansion after their acquisition of SPI International last year.

Thema America is representing and distributing SPI International’s popular channels which comprises of FunBox UHD, FilmBox Arthouse, Gametoon, FightBox, DocuBox, Fast&FunBox, FashionBox, Erox, Eroxxx, and 360TuneBox. The alliance formed with SPI International is in tune with Canal+’s 25 years of experience in the international distribution of film and television content.

Carlos Fernandez, CEO of Thema America displayed his enthusiasm regarding the collaboration and underscored the power brought by partnering with Canal+ and its sister company SPI International. Fernandez aims to expand their business with elevated entertainment offerings for more than 600 million viewers in the region.

The venture is unfolding at a time when Pay TV is experiencing a global recession which has been similarly present in Latin America since 2010. Statista reports on the region’s shift towards free ad-supported TV services with projections insinuating exponential revenue growth in the years to come, especially in Brazil.
