BBC Arts has commissioned Passion Pictures, the Academy Award-winning production firm renowned for its work on documentaries such as Searching for Sugar Man and Wham! To produce a three-part series on the legendary Elizabeth Taylor. The project, Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar is helped by executive producer Kim Kardashian who emphasises on Taylor’s unapologetic and evolving nature.
The series aims to render “privileged access to those who knew her best”, which encompasses her family members, friends and colleagues from the different phases of Taylor’s illustrious career. The series aims to transcend the soap opera narrative that has dominated discussions about her life. Instead, it promises to celebrate her as an actor, rebel, business mogul, activist, and delve into how she helped refine the very essence of modern celebrity.
Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar will dive into her craftsmanship as an actor and her transformative impact on fame. The documentary will be harnessing the never-before-heard audio tapes, interviews, unseen TV footage, and an extensive archive of her movies. Interviews with personal acquaintances, including Kardashian, Dame Joan Collins, Margaret O’brien, and leading scientist Dr. Anthony Fauci will be offering unique insights into Taylor’s life and legacy.
Kim Kardashian had conducted the last interview with Taylor before her departure had praised the Hollywood icon for pavin the way for those who followed. Alistair Pegg, the commissioning editor of BBC had also displayed her enthusiasm as she anticipates a fresh understanding of Taylor’s capabilities as an actor and her capacity for reinvention.
