DeAPlaneta Entertainment acquires the animation series Ghosts of Ruin. Positive results are to be expected with the series’ high-profiled cast and crew, as well as future plans in the works. By Ching Wai.
Barcelona - Ghosts of Ruin is a sci-fi young adult (+16) animation series created by PJ Accetturo and Ryan Ramsey. DeAPlaneta Entertainment has acquired the series and will manage Media, Digital and L&M rights globally. This excludes North America, as it is handled by Bejuba Entertainment. The CG-animated dystopian series has 13 episodes, each 22 minutes long, for its first season. The first episodes are already available, and have received a mixed reception.
The animated series has two-time Emmy-winner Michael Ryan as the showrunner, and Oscar-nominee Thierry Marchand as the director. Ryan has worked on well-known animations like Powerpuff Girls, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Phineas & Ferb. Marchand has worked on shows like Oktapodi, Angelo Rules, and Treasure Trekkers. The series is developed and produced by Michael Ramey and Katie Stippec. Voice actors include Rosario Dawson (from Ahsoka), Justin Long (from Barbarian), Nathalie Emmanuel (from the Fast & Furious franchise), Tony Revolori (from The Grand Budapest), and AleXa (a K-pop icon). Original music was created by Hans Zimmer’s collective Bleeding Fingers Music. This series is apparently only the beginning, with plans for video games, graphic novels, merch and more teased.
Carlos Biern, Content and Distribution Director at DeAPlaneta Kids & Family, has high expectations for the animated series. Biern stated, “We are sure it will become a favourite among gaming lovers and digital communities, one of the main targets our teams have been focusing on for our NEW franchises. Ghosts of Ruin is the perfect choice for any programming director looking to attract this difficult target.”
PJ Accetturo, Chief Executive Officer at Battle Island, echoed this sentiment. Accetturo said, “Ghosts of Ruin is our love letter to the gaming industry and the future of the medium… the possibilities for the franchise are endless - uniting animation fans, gamers, comic book consumers and beyond. We’re thrilled to continue exploring the world of Ruin and amassing a loyal audience of underdogs and dreamers.” With such a star-studded cast and crew, and future plans in the works, the welcome move by DeAPlaneta Entertainment can be expected to reap positive results in the long run.
