Actor Martin Lawrence, known in Hollywood for his Bad Boys film series with Will Smith, will be working with a new partner for a very different project. By: Dylan Low
The
actor-comedian is alongside Shannon Sharpe, ESPN co-host and ex-Denver Bronco
NFL player, as they look to showcase how the selection of Oikos snacks with
protein can boost energy levels. The two participate in a 30-second Super Bowl
advertisement that combines Lawrence’s trademark irreverence with Game Day
humour that audiences should expect.
“We had a
good script,” mentioned Lawrence in an interview, “but they gave us the freedom
to ad-lib if we wanted to, and we added certain little things.”
In the ad,
Lawrence and Sharpe were playing golf, as they find their cart submerged. Using
Oikos’ lineup of protein-packed snacks, Lawrence gains the strength to put the
vehicle on his shoulders (using a crane not on camera) and carry it out of the
water. With that, Sharpe finds that he owes Lawrence a new pair of pants (in a
line that Lawrence says he ad-libbed during filming).
“Through
our star-studded talent of Martin and Shannon, we’re showcasing how our
delicious snacking choices help everyone support their strength,” claimed
Rafael Acevedo, president and general manager at Danone North America, in a
statement. “While our spot is airing during the Big Game, this isn’t just about
Game Day strength for us. Oikos is committed to elevating pathways to strength
for all and helping increase more equitable access to nutrition resources in
underserved communities to ensure everyone can get the strength they crave.”
Oikos is
not only relying on its TV commercials for their marketing efforts. The company
will place in-store displays to make shoppers aware of its efforts and is also
running a “Snack Strong Oikos” sweepstakes, which allows fans to enter until
February 29th for a chance to win $25 and $50 Fanatics gift cards, and even win
a home theatre. The Oikos Super Bowl advertisement will be accessible across
the brand’s social-media accounts on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok.
