The former Warner Bros. Discovery’s UK and Ireland General Manager has been placed in charge of AMC Networks International’s brands in Spain and Portugal. By Ching Wai.
Europe - AMC Networks International has appointed Antonio Ruiz to be the new managing director and executive vice president of AMC Networks International Southern Europe. Ruiz will lead the management of all the company’s brands in Spain and Portugal, and report directly to the president of AMC Networks International, Eduardo Zulueta.
Previously, Ruiz had worked at Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) for about a year from 2022 to 2023. The now managing director and executive vice president formerly took on the role of general manager for the UK and Ireland branch at WBD, as well as general manager for Spain, France and Portugal at Discovery before the WarnerMedia and Discovery merger. Ruiz had achieved significant commercial and financial success for the company’s pay TV, free-to-air, and streaming portfolio.
At Discovery, Ruiz had been global vice president of marketing and franchise management for Eurosport, senior director of marketing and communication for Discovery Networks in Southern Europe, and channel director for Spain, Portugal, and France. He had also worked in locations like Madrid, Milan, Paris and London.
Ruiz said of his appointment, “I am thrilled to join AMC Networks, a company with a history of bringing viewers such popular and critically acclaimed programming, and contribute to its growth and success by leading our vibrant presence in Southern Europe.”
Zulueta also commented, “Antonio is a proven executive who has established an impressive record of success in our industry. He will be a formidable addition to our international team and a great leader for our Southern European division.”
More than 30 pay-TV channels and streaming services are produced and distributed by AMC Networks International Southern Europe, including AMC, Canal Hollywood and SundanceTV.
