"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is a thrilling, hilarious and emotional finale to an unforgettable space adventure that will leave you begging for more.
Story: In Marvel Studios' "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.
Cast: James Gunn writes and directs the film with Kevin Feige producing, and features the notable cast of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper. Other recognisable appearances include Will Poulter's debut as Adam Warlock and Sylvester Stallone returning for his role as the mercenary Stakar Ogord.
Review: Director James Gunn's “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is an epic final tour of the superhero galaxy that is all killer, no filler. The movie follows the lovably scrappy bunch of space misfits led by rogue-like Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), who is spending most of his days drunk and depressed at their home base on Knowhere. The Guardians go on a quest to save Rocket, their raccoon teammate, who was wounded in an attack by the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji), a formidable baddie who thinks he's a god and has long experimented on organic beings and matter to create the perfect species.
Gunn's last mission in the Marvel universe before he flies off to make the next Superman movie is a hilarious, heart-breaking, touching, and rather wonderful close to an enjoyable trilogy. The movie is like listening to your favourite band on their final tour, with the greatest hits mixed with new stuff that reminds you why they're awesome in the first place, and a desire for the last song to never end.
Gunn's penchant for the enjoyably bizarre is on full display, especially as he plays off the relationship and workplace dynamics in the weirdest alien environments imaginable. He's also able to dip back into successful aspects from past “Guardians” movies and replay them in new and different ways without feeling stale.
The soundtrack's amazing and features iconic titles from Rainbow to Florence + the Machine, as Gunn has a knack for letting tunes help tell his story. The film has a lot of bit characters and payoffs from previous films interspersed throughout it. The actors get some great character moments, and each of them chips in to help save Rocket.
Overall, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” is a reminder of everything groovy that the original did so well, with a sort of goodbye that'll leave you satisfied, giddy, and glad you took the trip. Gunn has fostered strong and relatable personalities over the course of a decade, which makes certain lines and moments emotionally wreck you in the best of ways. This film is a hilarious, action-packed, and sentimental ride that will leave you wanting to spend just a little bit longer with the Guardians.
