Twenty-Eight
Mansion Spirits
At the heart of Into
the Mortal World lies the concept of the 28 mansion spirits, a fundamental
aspect of traditional Chinese astronomy. These celestial bodies, each
represented by a distinct animal or mythical creature, adding layers of
symbolism and cultural significance to the celestial realm.
28 mansion spirits
reminiscent of 12 zodiac signs of Western astrology, while both systems use
constellations and symbols. Chinese one was chosen for their positions and
practical purposes, while zodiac signs were often linked to mythological
stories and perceived astrological influences.
The love story
of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl
Set against the
backdrop of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, Into the Mortal World
embarks on a captivating journey that unveils the tale of their descendants.
This celestial
romance, a poignant narrative that has captivated Chinese hearts for
generations, finds parallels in the Western world with the renowned tragedy of
Romeo and Juliet. The Cowherd, a humble farmer, and the Weaver Girl, a
celestial maiden, fall deeply in love despite their vastly different worlds.
Their forbidden love is discovered, and the Weaver Girl is banished to the
celestial realm, separated from her beloved Cowherd. The magpies, touched by
their unwavering love, form a bridge once a year on the seventh day of the
seventh lunar month(Qixi Festival), allowing the couple to reunite briefly.
