Indian Box Office hits record $600 million in first half of 2024 with ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ leading the way. By: K Dass.
India - India’s box office has achieved
a remarkable milestone, crossing $600 million (INR 5.015 billion) in the first
six months of 2024. The driving force behind this success? The sci-fi
action-adventure film, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, directed by Nag Ashwin and
starring Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan.
According to a report from Ormax Media, the cumulative
gross box office revenue from January to June 2024 is 3% higher than the same
period in 2023. ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ alone has contributed a whopping $92.3
million (INR 7.72 billion) since its release on June 27, accounting for 15% of
India’s overall box office earnings.

Interestingly, the chart lacks Tamil-language titles
this year, despite their strong presence in 2023. However, Malayalam-language
films have surged, accounting for 15% of the box office, up from 5% last year.
Telugu films maintain their share, while Punjabi cinema has seen growth thanks
to the success of ‘Jatt & Juliet 3’ in June.
With a promising lineup of titles for the second half
of 2024, including ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule,’ ‘Stree 2,’ and ‘Singham
Again,’ India’s box office could break its own record set in 2023. The film
industry continues to thrive, captivating audiences with diverse stories and
genres.
