Distributed by Federation Kids & Family

Toronto, Los Angeles, France - Federation Kids & Family is handling worldwide sales and will be presenting the series to buyers at the upcoming MIPJUNIOR & MIPCOM markets. The series is scheduled to debut in Spring 2024. Developed with CBC Kids and produced by Pillango Productions and Aircraft Pictures.

Gangnam Project is a coming-of-age narrative that draws inspiration from the personal experiences of the show’s producer, Sarah Haasz. Set in South Korea, it follows the story of Hannah Shin, a Canadian and Korean descent, who aspires to be a K-pop sensation and forging a deeper connection with her Korean heritage. Hannah takes on the role of an English tutor in Korea at a prestigious K-pop training institute where she inadvertently caught the attention of the school’s owner, before enrolling into the school as a student herself.

The series celebrates the world of K-pop, featuring an original soundtrack by recording artist, songwriter, producer and musician, August Rigo, who has written songs for global talents such as BTS (Black Swan and On) Usmile for Justin Bieber and Gotta Be You for One Direction.

Sarah Haasz, Founder of Pillango Productions, and creator of the series said: “For over 30 years I wanted to tell my story as a first-generation immigrant from Korea living in Canada, who journeys to Korea to explore her roots and experiences an identity crisis both comically and dramatically- so it’s a joy to finally see this dream realised in Gangnam Project.”
