The WWE is continuing their weekly appearance on broadcast television in its next round of media rights deals.
WWE NXT, the weekly programme that features future upcoming wrestling prospects, is switching over from the USA network to The CW in October 2024. This move takes place after WWE Smackdown leaves Fox for the USA simultaneously, with the beginning of the company’s new media rights deals.
This deal brings back WWE to The CW, where Smackdown broadcasted from 2006-2008, additionally bolstering the streamer’s roster of sports such as college football and basketball games from the Atlantic Coast Conference, LIV Golf, Inside the NFL, etc. It provides the network a full year status of programming, with WWE programmes not going on hiatus.
CW president Dennis Miller released in a statement, “We are thrilled to welcome the WWE brand into the CW Sports portfolio as they play an integral role in our mission to bring live sporting events to the network year-round.
“WWE NXT is a perfect fit for The CW thanks to its dynamic young talent featuring the hottest rising stars in the sport and exhilarating, unpredictable weekly events. The passion and engagement of WWE’s fanbase is unmatched, and we are eager to grow that audience as WWE NXT’s new home on broadcast television.”
For WWE, NXT going to a broadcast network conceivably increases the show’s outreach, as the CW is accessible in 100 million homes in the United States compared to 72 million in the USA network. The ratings have risen higher compared to 2022.
“Between the new leadership and ownership, the economics of the deal and with their broadcast network now being in more than 100 million homes, it became a no brainer to move NXT, one of our signature weekly shows, to The CW,” mentioned WWE president Nick Khan.
