New Karate Kid will Feature Both Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio

Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, who were featured in two separate Karate Kid films in different decades have come together for a film reboot set in the martial arts franchise. By: Dylan Low

The new movie will be produced by Sony Pictures, created by director Jonathan Entwistle and writer Rob Lieber, will premiere in theatres on Dec. 13, 2024. Karen Rosenfelt will be the producer of the film.

Plot details remain undisclosed about the new movie, with Macchio recurring as his role of Daniel LaRusso, which he portrayed in the original Karate Kid film trilogy beginning in 1984 and returned on mainstream Netflix series Cobra Kai series. Jackie Chan will reprise his character Mr. Han - a kung fu master referencing Mr. Miyagi, who mentored Jaden Smith’s Dre Parker in the 2010 remake film.

Macchio has continued playing the character of Daniel in the franchise Cobra Kai, which revealed its sixth and final season earlier this year. The programme is produced by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, happening decades after the story of the original Karate Kid movies, rekindling a rivalry between the current older Daniel and Johnny Lawrence who is portrayed by William Zabka.

It remains unknown how the ongoing story of Cobra Kai will play a part in the new upcoming Karate Kid movie. In an announcement video uploaded on YouTube, Chan and Macchio have set up an international casting search for a brand-new karate kid to lead the film, requesting for young actors to send over audition tapes to the website KarateKidCasting.com.
