Jonathan Majors Assault Trial Takes Place

Notable actor Jonathan Major made his appearance at New York City Criminal Court for the beginning of his assault trial, which started on Wednesday after multiple postponements. Jury selection is scheduled to happen in the late afternoon. By: Dylan Low

Majors showed up in a lower Manhattan courtroom, dressed in a grey suit and holding a bible, notebook and mug. He arrived together with his girlfriend Meagan Good, who has made several court appearances alongside Majors.

The acclaimed Marvel star was previously apprehended on March 25th, following an alleged domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. Majors did not plead guilty to the four charges of assault and aggravated harassment that have been charged against him, with a fifth charge about strangulation dropped. If convicted, he will spend up to a year in jail.

The morning was largely spent debating the defence’s claim of request that “contested evidence” remains under wraps and kept away from the public owing to the “high profile” nature of the case and allegations towards Majors. Members of the media filed a movement to reject this decision, which covers one pre-trial issue and not the whole trial.

Défense attorney Seth Zuckerman told Judge Michael Gaffey that the disclosure of sensitive information will “deprive” Majors of the entitlement to a fair trial. “There are no alternatives,” he proclaimed. He believes the unrevealed information would “have a highly prejudicial impact on the jury no matter what.”

Attorney Katherine M. Bolger, speaking for the news sources who filed the motion, stated she wasn’t informed of the sealed information but debated that the press should have access in place of the public. “We urge you to reject this,” she expressed. “For any closure, there needs to be on-the-record filings.”

The judge had decided to enclose the hearing and the named documents on the matter as it’s “the only way to prevent tainting the jury pool.” The information will be made public if evidence is made acceptable for trial.

Due to the allegations, Majors has been removed from feature film projects and discarded by his PR group at the Lede Company, and his management, Entertainment 360. He is still represented by his agency, William Morris Endeavor (WME).
