Marvel Studios Fires Jonathan Majors after Guilty Verdict

Marvel has split ways with actor Jonathan Majors, who was previously cast to play Kang, the main villain in the Multiverse saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was legally convicted of two misdemeanour counts of harassment and assault of his previous partner Grace Jabbari. By: Dylan Low

Details of the official verdict include that Majors was acquitted of one count of intentional assault in the third degree and one count of aggravated harassment in the second degree.

The actor was arrested back in March with assault and harassment charges, as Jabbari accused Majors of attacking her in their private car’s backseat after she took his phone after seeing a text message from another woman. Jabbari claimed Majors forcefully retrieved his phone from her, inflicting an “excruciating” injury to her right middle finger, and when she tried to leave, Majors striked her on the back of her head, putting her back into the car which caused a gash behind her right ear.

Since news of his arrest broke, Majors was axed by his talent manager, Entertainment 360, and his publicity firm, the Lede Company. He no longer has any affiliation with the Protagonist Pictures film The Man in My Basement.  The US Army also removed a large-scale ad campaign starring Majors, alongside the Texas Rangers baseball team. The future of projects casting Majors remain up in the air, namely Spike Lee’s Amazon film Da Understudy and the Dennis Rodman movie 48 Hours in Vegas, distributed by Lionsgate.

However, Marvel’s judgement to end partnership with the famed actor marks as the most prominent repercussion of Majors’ offence. He first portrayed the multiversal villain Kang in the final episode of the 2021 Disney+ series Loki, which initiated the main storyline for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Majors’ character being the focal point.
