A24 Confirms Civil War Film’s Runtime

The movie directed by filmmaker Alex Garland, takes place in a near future in which the US breaks out into a violent conflict. It has a runtime of 109 minutes, despite reports otherwise. IMDB inaccurately states a runtime of 3 hours and 15 minutes, as A24 confirms the film spans only 2 hours. By: Dylan Low

The cast consists of Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Cailee Spaeny, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sonoya Mizuno, Jesse Plemons and Nick Offerman. The film showcases to viewers the tension of a new American civil war. The trailer begins with a showcase of destruction across the country, coupled with news reports saying the “19 states have seceded.”

“Citizens of America, the so-called Western forces of Texas and California have suffered a very great defeat at the hands of the United States military,” the U.S. President announced in the trailer, portrayed by Offerman. Dunst takes up the role of a photographer in a society where government air strikes are utilised against civilians and journalists are shot when seen in the Capitol.

Civil War is directed and written by Garland, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker who has created movies such as Ex Machina, Annihilation and his more recent 2022 film, Men. Garland also made the 2020 FX series Devs featuring Offerman.

A24 is the production company, joined by producers Gregory Goodman and DNA’s Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich. Goodman’s previous producing credits consist of Three Kings, 8 Mile, Captain Phillips and 22 July.
