Warner Bros. Acquires Christopher Reeve’s Super/Man Doc for 15 million
Super/Man, which showcases the life of Christopher Reeve, is completing a deal to be purchased by Warner Bros. Discovery following its popular Sundance Film Festival premiere. By: Dylan Low
The
landmark documentary will divulge Reeve showcasing his greatest success,
portraying the Man of Steel in the first four Superman films, produced by
Warner Bros. James Gunn, the co-chairman of Warner-owned DC Studios, will bring
back the character in the upcoming movie title Superman: Legacy, as
screenwriter and director.
It
remains unknown how the deal will be constructed, with sources stating that it
could consist of some kind of distribution represented by the DC Studios
banner, additionally involving a showcase on CNN – also owned by Warner Bros.
Discovery. It would also be featured on Max, the company’s streaming platform.
With the sale has not officially been announced, it remains plausible that the
agreement could fall apart, however the negotiations are now exclusive.
Before
the festival began, Super/Man was anticipated to be one of the major
sales of the event. Before the movie was aired in Park City for audiences and
buyers, some studios and streamers were already lined up to bid fiercely for
screening rights. The pact will claim international rights and is priced
between $14 to $15 million range.
Super/Man
is associated with Words+ Pictures (a North Road company), Passion Pictures and
Misfits Entertainment. It was first reported that Warner Bros. Discovery was in
final negotiations, warding off competition from specialty studio Neon and
notable streaming service Netflix, according to inside sources. Cinetic is
currently managing the sale of the film.
