Oscar nominated actress Scarlett Johansson is currently in talks to play the lead character in a new Jurassic World film set for release in summer 2025. By: Kritchanon Tan Kian Wei.
US - American actress Scarlett Johansson, best known for her role as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe from 2010 to 2019, is currently in talks to play the lead role in Universal’s upcoming Jurassic World film.
Though the Jurassic World trilogy wrapped up with Jurassic World Dominion in 2022, a new Jurassic World film has been fast tracked for a summer 2025 release by Universal, after first being reported by The Hollywood Reporter in January 2024. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, who played the lead roles of Owen Grady and Claire Dearing in the latest trilogy, are not expected to reprise their roles in this new Jurassic World film. Jurassic Park (1993) stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum will also reportedly not reprise their roles.
The new Jurassic World film will be executive produced by Steven Spielberg, and produced by Frank Marshall, Patrick Crowley, David Leitch and Kelly McCormick. It seems that Universal is opting for a fresh take on the franchise, though it is unclear whether this means the film would be a hard reboot, soft reboot (like Jurassic World was for Jurassic Park) or spin-off. According to productionlist.com, the new dinosaur blockbuster is set to start filming from 31 July 2024, less than a year before the planned release date for the film.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, who directed Godzilla (2014), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) and The Creator (2023), the still-untitled Jurassic World film is set to be released in theatres in the US on 2 July 2025.
