ABC Entertainment Chief Nick Hayden Steps Down

The head of entertainment of Australian pubcaster ABC is set to step down at the end of August. By: Talia

Nick Hayden, who joined the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in 2016 as an executive producer, is leaving the company after seven years.

Hayden worked on several popular shows during his time at the ABC, including The House with Annabel Crabb, Tomorrow Tonight, Spicks and Specks, Tonightly, Whovians, Celeste Barber Challenge Accepted, and Hack Live. He was also the head of entertainment for the past three years, overseeing shows such as Question Everything, Julia Zemiro's Home Delivery, Win the Week, Why Are You Like This?, Ms Represented, Back to Nature, Frankly, Shaun Micallef's Pagan Holiday Special, and the upcoming FWTFAQ.

Rachel Millar will serve as acting head of entertainment in Hayden's departure.

In a statement, Hayden said he had loved (almost!) every moment at the ABC. "The content and the people have been incredible," he said. "But after seven years, the time feels right to move onto other things."

Hayden said he would not be sharing details about his future yet, but that he would be an avid viewer of ABC in the meantime.

Millar said she was excited to be taking on the role of acting head of entertainment. "I'm looking forward to working with the talented team at ABC Entertainment to continue to deliver great content for our audiences," she added.

Hayden's departure comes at a time of change for the ABC, which is undergoing a restructuring of its commissioning team. The new Content division, overseen by Chris Oliver-Taylor, will be responsible for commissioning all content for the ABC, including news, drama, comedy, and entertainment.

Hayden's departure is a loss for the ABC, but Millar is a capable leader who will ensure that the company continues to produce high-quality entertainment programming.
