Prior to Perry’s sudden passing, he had been actively preparing to establish a foundation aimed at helping individuals struggling with substance abuse. Besides his Perry House to help clothe people struggling with alcohol, he wanted a foundation to help those struggling with addiction. By: Wee Yan Ling
The substance abuse foundation is an extension of his commitment to help following his founding of Perry House, a men’s sober living facility which was in operation for 2 years.
The actor had revealed in an interview prior that he wanted to be remembered beyond his fame as Chandler Bing. He was making plans to establish a foundation to help those struggling with addiction issues which is similar to Betty Ford’s Foundation near Palm Springs.
"But when I die, as far as my so-called accomplishments go, it would be nice if Friends were listed far behind the things, I did to try to help other people. I know it won't happen but it would be nice,'' he added.
“I had a big problem with alcohol and pills and I couldn’t stop,” he once said. “Eventually things got so bad that I couldn’t hide it, and then everybody knew.”
His journey to recovery has led to him providing assistance to clothe those who faced similar hurdles. The Perry House was launched a decade after he shared his personal struggles of battling with alcohol and Vicodin abuse in 2013.
Following the passing of the Friends star, those who were close to Perry remain determined to realise his foundation in his memory.
