Gladiator Sequel Resumes Filming in Malta

Gladiator 2 will return to production in Malta this December. Shooting was initially delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike which first happened back in July. However, with the announcement that a tentative agreement had been reached, studios can now move forward on multiple productions. By: Dylan Low

News has officially been announced that the Gladiator sequel will make its return to production. Directed by Ridley Scott, the second film of Gladiator will feature Paul Mescal, who is Oscar-nominated for his leading role in Aftersun. He is casted alongside Denzel Washington and The Last of Us actor Pedro Pascal. Connie Nielsen and Derek Jacobi, who starred in the 2000 original, reprise their roles in the sequel. The first original film was a massive hit and achieved tremendous success, securing an Oscar award for Best Picture.

Scott’s latest release Napoleon, showcased in theatres a week ago. In an interview regarding the film’s premiere, Scott mentioned he’s spent the strike editing 90 minutes of footage for Gladiator 2, consisting of “… a scene in which the hero fights a pack of baboons.”

Paramount Pictures will be the distributor for Gladiator 2 internationally. The film will screen on November 22nd, 2024.
