Philippines International Co-productions Fund

The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) has announced a raft of grants for both local productions and international co-productions under its various funding programmes for 2024. By K Dass.

Philippines - The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) has recently unveiled a series of grants aimed at supporting both local productions and international co-productions through various funding programs.

International Co-production Fund (ICOF) and ASEAN Co-production Fund (ACOF) recipients will receive a total of PHP 26 million in grants. These funds aim to foster collaboration between filmmakers across borders, encouraging joint projects that enrich the global cinematic landscape.

The Film Location Incentive Program (FLIP) grantees are eligible for a 20% cash rebate, capped at PHP 10 million, on their eligible expenses incurred within the Philippines. This program aims to attract filmmakers to choose the Philippines as their shooting location, thereby boosting the local film industry and generating economic.

Two projects have been awarded grants under the FDCP’s International Co-production Fund (ICOF) – James Robinson’s First Light, a co-production between the Philippines and Australia, and Jerrold Tarog’s US-Philippines co-production The Sacrifice.

FDCP’s Film Location Incentive Program (FLIP) has awarded one project – Survivor Quebec Season 2, which Philippines Film Studios is producing with Canada’s Production Suprenantes. Announcing the grants on Facebook, FDCP said FLIP and ICOF are designed to promote the Philippines as a highly viable filming destination for international productions.

However, no ASEAN co-productions have been awarded grants in this funding cycle. FDCP announced last year that it was combining its ICOF and Asean Co-production Fund (ACOF) into a single ICOF fund.

These grants represent a significant step toward nurturing creativity, fostering cross-cultural collaborations, and enhancing the vibrant film ecosystem in the Philippines. Filmmakers, both local and international, can now explore exciting possibilities and bring their cinematic visions to life with the support of these incentives.
